The Ontario Rugby League executive team has made the difficult decision to post-pone our domestic rugby league season at this time. After receiving feedback from players, coaches, and program representatives, it is clear our registration numbers are not where they need to be to support the games planned this spring.
We understand clubs are struggling for numbers and we want to adapt to allow our league to continue to build and grow throughout the 2022 season. The plan moving forward will be to host combined training sessions for the men and women biweekly on Sundays. Our first session will be this Sunday, June 12 at Fletcher’s Field from 11AM to 1PM. Please see the calendar for session updates: https://ontariorl.ca/events/month/. The COED CanTag Tri-series, in collaboration with our masters program, is still set to take place on July 10, July 24, and August 7.
A call for provincial coaching staff is coming soon! It is our hope that as we move toward our 9s tournament and Eastern vs. Western Canada competitions, players numbers will begin to grow and a domestic season may be possible in the fall.
We thank each and every person supporting the ORL for their commitment to growing the game we all love here in Ontario. It takes time and effort to grow the grassroots, and we appreciate all the energy invested and willingness to be adaptable.
